Expansion joints (bellows) Expansion joints are installed in a piping system to absorb vibration and shock. Expansion bellows are used to prevent pipe movement caused by thermal expansion or machine vibrations passing through the pipeline. They are frequently positioned near machines that will transmit vibration through the pipeline or in lengthy sections of pipeline.
